Back in time

My mum was rummaging in a drawer looking for a lost something-or-other & found this old photo of herself. She thinks she was about 10 & got annoyed that the developer "enhanced" the colour so it looks like she's a child wearing make-up.

I know what she means but I can't remember whether there was an actual name for this type of photograph developing. This was 1940s/1950s

Any of you clever people know?
