High voltage
Today we followed a course in high voltage switching and switchboards in our own units.
Here we are at the main transformer of unit EC 3, a huge blue thing....
This is a 440 MVA, 23 KV / 230 KV transformer, equipped with a forced cooling with special oil.

As I said it transforms the 23000V of the alternator up to 230000V (230KV) of the main grid.
In the top back you see the switchgear which connects the system at the secundairy side (seen from the unit) to the grid. (230KV)
These are very sophisticated cirquitbreakers, filled with special SF6 gas to prevent them from burning to pieces when they have to be opened and closed on load.
