View from Ecola State Park
We had a wonderful hike through Ecola state park today. It is very close to where we are staying and it is the protected land around Tillamook Head. It consists mostly of old growth forest and has impressive cliffs going down to the sea. We sweated our way up 800 feet through the forest and came out eventually at a viewpoint from where we could see the lighthouse. I was hoping for a more open viewpoint but was a bit disappointed that there was just a little peep hole through the trees. I am obviously spoiled by the exposed cliffs of Caithness!
On the way back we great views looking back to Cannon Beach and this is one of them that you can see. We drove to another viewpoint and walked out to watch the thousands of seabirds on the offshore stacks and rocks. There were some impressive large birds that I think were some kind of pelican - have never seen them in Scotland!
