Captain George Vancouver
This 9 foot statue of Captain George Vancouver is in downtown Vancouver, (Wa. USA )not to be mistaken with our neighbor to the north. Our city was named for Capt. Vancouver by one of the men on his ship although Vancouver never set foot here or even travelled up the Colmbia River. This statue is at the site where the Farmers'Market is held on the weekend and someone always puts a fresh bouquet of flowers in his hand. Whenever we travel and tell someone we're from Vancouver, they usually assume it's Vancouver, British Columbia. If we say we're from Washington they assume it's Washington D.C. Sometimes it's just easier to say we're from Portland, Oregon!
