Still learning

I spent this weekend on a course at the excellent Stills Gallery on Cockburn Street, Edinburgh.

Learnt so much, met some interesting people, had some fun. Big up to David our fantastic tutor. If you (like I was) still use auto on your Digi slr then this course will give you all the confidence you need to go full manual as well as inspiration to take better pictures. Loved every minute of it.

We also got a bit of Ps tutorial. Some of which I listened to. I may have pushed this a bit far (A-) but I love the contrast and the vibrancy of the colour.

I love it for a very specific reason. This is a detail on the door of a Free Church of Scotland church down the hill from the Castle. For those of you who don't know, the Free Church is about as far to the end of the fire and brimstone end of the Christian spectrum it's possible to get. Still prevalent in the NW Highlands and Islands, it has a reputation as dour (google it).

I was surprised to see a bright red and so much ornamentation on the door of a chruch so well known for sackcloth and ashes.
