Community Market morning
We visited the Starkville Community Market this morning. At 9:00, the temperatures were already up there, so we basically whirled through it fast enough to get a bunch of vegetables and get out of the sun.
Write-up about the project from http://msmobilefarm.com/
"As part of the Gaining Ground Sustainability Institute of Mississippi (www.ggsim.org), an exciting new non-profit already doing some great things around the state, we will be working with a group of recent graduates of the Mississippi School of Math and Science on an exciting new project right here in Oxford, MS. We will be converting a school bus to a model for alternative, renewable energy utilizing biodiesel and solar power and then turning it into a sustainable ?farm on wheels? ? a rolling greenhouse, chicken coop and more that will serve as an educational outreach tool for Gaining Ground throughout Mississippi and the south. Other features include worm tea and compost bins, a rainwater catchment system that will be used to irrigate our plants once the greenhouse roof is installed and a chicken coop on board! School children will benefit from the ability to see and experience models of sustainability, learn about growing/raising their own food and hopefully inspire the next generation to rethink their relationship with and obligation toward caring for our environment."
