poles, or whatever they're called

Every time I go down to the beach, I want to take a picture of these poles. They're not actually called poles, but I can't remember their real name, correction's welcome. I must have taken hundreds of shots since I cam to Guernsey but nothing ever came out of it. I've met another photographer there a few weeks ago, Chris, and his pictures just looked a hundred times better than mine. That took the fun away for a while, but today I gave it another try. Still far away from his pictures, but you can only try and try again.
