Kinect Infrared Red
So this is what happens when you point an infrared camera at the kinect when it is switched on. I take it all the strange patterns popping out all over the place are part of it's scanning mechanism and that it is using infrared so that it works in low light situations.
This was taken using a recently purchased Sony DSC-F717 which I got for £50 in a second hand shop.It has the 'Night Shot' mode which caused a lot of controversy for being able to see through clothes when used in daylight. They put some contraints on the nightshot mode on these cameras but they still allow you to shoot in the dark and if you use a infrared filter you get a full outdoor infrared camera without having to pay to have the cut filter removed from your expensive DSLR. I haven't tried it outdoors yet but it works great indoors.
Unfotunately I forgot to change up the image size before testing so I only got tiny little pictures.
