The Forbidden Corner

At last! Have wanted to visit The Forbidden Corner for years and decided that this summer I was going to go there, no matter what.

The garden bills itself as "The Strangest Place In The World" and it is - but it's also one of the most extraordinary locations that you can imagine. J, quite rightly, stated that "It's like something out of Alice In Wonderland".

It's so difficult to even begin to describe it. It's like a maze I suppose in that any path you take will lead you in such a way that you'll never get back to where you started from. And along each path, are curiosities and wonders that make every choice you make a journey of discovery. There are sculptures in the walls like this one, a horses head that leans over the wall and talks to you as you pass, stepping stones that lead to a Roman temple. There's a castle that you can enter with different doors opening onto different experiences - an underworld grotto, a dark jungle of trees that you have to feel and work your way through to escape, a tiny circular chamber where the floor moves around. There are surprises at every turn - stones that shoot water at you, a pyramid made of glass, an axe-wielding giant made of tree trunks that are still standing in position. And more and more and more. It was truly amazing and unforgettable. I don't believe that anyone could fail to be charmed by it. Here's the website: http://www.theforbiddencorner.co.uk/ - I recommend that everyone should go and see it for themselves!

I narrowed down all the photos I took to five and let J choose which one I should blip for today. He hadn't even spotted this arm in the wall when we were there, so he chose this one. And that's the thing - I bet there's loads we missed on our visit - so we'll need to go back another time and do it all again too!
