Arab-esque
Liverpool's annual Arabic Arts Festival has been running since 2002 and this year's programme is more full than ever of performance, visual arts, music, film, literature and debate. It couldn't be more 'of the moment' given the events of the so-called Arab Spring and the ongoing struggles of the people of Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Yemen and the whole region to take back some control of their own lives. Not forgetting those in Tunisia and Egypt who, having ousted their presidents, still have so much work to do.
This is a shot of a piece called Cart.og.ra.phy which was designed by Palestinian artist Dia Batal and was inspired by her observation of temporary structures in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
The cart holds stories, images and memories contributed by members of Liverpool's Arab community - you can sit and listen to audio clips of people's stories of migration, family life, memories of 'home' and life in Liverpool today, open the cart's drawers and find written testimonies, photographs and recipes. You're also encouraged to share your own thoughts and make contributions. The cart is travelling to various locations in the city until 10th July.
