Fancy a Burn-up?
Transport caffs used to be a common sight on Britain's A-roads.
The Ace opened in 1938 to provide refreshment to lorry drivers, but 24 hour opening, combined with the post-war teenage revolution, meant that in the 1950's it became a haunt of motorcyclists & Rockers. It's location on the North Circular Road made it a perfect venue for burn-ups & record-races. Immortalised in the (pretty dreadful) film The Leather Boys.
Motorways took the haulage trade away & the caff closed in 1969. But in 1994 Mark Wilsmore organised the first Ace Cafe Reunion. 12,000 motorcyclists turned up!
Wilsmore succeeded in re-opening the Ace in 1997, & it's become a popular venue for bike & car enthusiasts to hold club nights & shows.
