Joshua Tree

The Joshua Tree (yucca brevifolia) is said to grow exclusively in the Mojave Dessert in California, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona but I have seen a few around here (further south). Obviously, this one was.

Mormon pioneers are said to have named this species "Joshua" Tree because it mimicked the Old Testament prophet Joshua waving them, with upraised arms, on toward the promised land.
