A Hive of Activity

This 200 meter (if that) section of road in Dundee is on week 3 of an estimated 14 week project which is part of the overall Dundee Waterfront project which is set to transform the city centre by 2031. The closure of this small section of the road effectively cuts the city in half making it nigh on impossible to get from west to east without a detour. My place of work is just to the east of the closure. This means an early rise and depart for me and queues which can be as little as 5 minutes or 25 mins, problem being there is no rhyme nor reason.

I have been observing as I wait in the daily queue to get off the bridge the three workmen who are stoically trying to erect massive gantries for a new part of the road to the west of this closure and musing as to how long it will take them to complete their labours...2031 seems optimistic

And now we have this closure, I have had cause to pass it a few times over the past few weeks (little point in going anywhere in the car at lunchtime.....) and I have to say the majority of times there have been a few bodies on site. But today that few was down to none with no signs of anything having been done or about to be done. This one could run and run

Not the best shot in the world but just by chance it does give you a hint of some of the planning office disasters throughout the last 30 or so years. To the rear is the hideous council building which will become a thing of the past later this year (if this stretch of road gets finished and if the new council building get completed) and the more recent carabuncle - the Holiday Express hotel. See how well it blends with the fine old buildings of Dundee past.

Well I was boring myself with flowers :)
