CD Boy

On the way back from my evening wander through Zamalek tonight I remembered I wanted to buy a blank cd. I stopped at this lad's stand, which is inside a kind of arcade, next door to the 24 hour supermarket, just 1 min from the hotel. He scurried away and came back with a blank cd (I do hope it's blank!) but didn't have change when I gave him a 50 Egyptian pound note. His mate ran off to try and get the change (the cd cost 15 pounds - about 1 euro 50 cents). Lots of comings and going and after 10 mins still no luck. I tried to buy another 3 blank cds, but he'd only had one. I honestly (perhaps naively) don't think he was trying it on, but just couldn't get change. Anyway, I eventually decided to just get a CD of Arabic music with the rest of the cash. Goodness knows what I've bought. I tried to say I wanted somebody famous and they seemed to understand that. If the announcement of my purchase to my Egyptian CELTA teacher trainees tomorrow results in smirks or snorts of laughter, I'll know. Anyway, my first Cairo souvenir. All the trainees taught their first lesson today, and all fine. An exhausting day though and now time for bed. Oh, I found a very hidden away little French restaurant right opposite the hotel tonight. You need to go up two flights of stairs to it, passing all sorts of questionable looking places on the way up! However, the food was good and is run by an Egyptian-French couple. I sat at a table right over the street where I've taken a few snaps since arriving. Need to start my list of places I want to share with Bb when he arrives on the 13th.
