7.45pm
and he was fast asleep. He was in bed by 7.30pm as well!! Been a very long busy day for Ben which he has, for the most part, thoroughly enjoyed. And also, for the most part, I've not been a part of...
School this morning for Ben while I went round the shops, and then a quick fly home to make packed lunches, and Ben was off to Hayley's for the afternoon while I went off to "school" on an insulin management course. (For the diabetics out there, it's Worthing's own version of the DAFNE course, and is audited by the people who created the DAFNE course but tailored specifically to the particular "clientele" here as the nurses put it today!)
To be quite honest I did wonder what on earth I was going to learn there. It's 4 sessions each of 3 hours. Learning about food. But, I have to eat my words - this afternoon was funny, interesting, informative, and eye-opening. The other two girls and I are their guineapigs for running this course specifically for pregnant or trying-to-conceive diabetic women, and they've picked a good three to trial it on! All very different diabetics with different specific needs to tailor the course to. The nurses are loving the challenge already! For me, apart from being an eye-opener already, it's such a relief to know I'm not the only one with such dreadful blood sugar control :) That said, this weekend I've put into practice the suggestions the nurse and consultant said on Friday, and have had a DRAMATIC improvement in sugar control. So maybe when I see the team in two weeks' time they'll let me get off the naughty step ;) (Basically I've relegated cereal to "treat" status... and am having porridge sweetened with banana instead. Which isn't actually all that bad, to be honest. I don't think I could have eaten this earlier on in the pregnancy, but at least now I can and so it's making a difference.)
Ben has had a blast. He's not slept all day, and he's been on the go all day. He's also eaten properly all day! He's always hungry on a Monday lunchtime because snacks are not readily available at school (just usually toast and apple mid-morning) so he ate almost all his sandwich and cheese and some grapes, and when he and Hayley got back from picking her children up from school he asked for more grapes! He's also eaten a fair bit of mash and gravy and meatballs for tea, played until we had to drag him home, got home and collapsed in a teary heap on his bed :) Aww poor love. Hope he sleeps well tonight!
This is him asleep (in our bed) about a year ago, he has changed a little...!
His going to bed early has meant I've had a whole hour and a half to myself. So I've been in the garden planting out half the new plants I bought this morning! I only went into the garden centre to get some kind of trellis or frame for a bean plant I was given, but ended up buying a few plants that had been reduced. So half are planted, the bean is in the ground with an obelisk type trellis around it, and the others are going into pots tomorrow afternoon if Ben feels like helping.
And now I really ought to make the most of the evening and have a bath but I'm thinking maybe I'll just eat my porridge and go to bed!
