Independence Day

Winston Churchill once said 'You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.'

Let's hope that Jefferson did the right thing in 1776 by declaring independence over Great Britain. I suppose if they change their minds, we may still let them back into the Commonwealth?

It has been said that the UK and the US are two nations divided over a common language. Let's hope their sense of humour is still in tune with our's :)

For those who have not yet read the full text of the Declaration, and I hadn't until the other year, it seemed mostly to be a long list of beastly things we British, or at least King George III had done against the US.

Anyway, they have a nice bright flag, interestingly, bearing the same colours as the Union Jack - perhaps flag dyes were limited in those days?
