With cavalier disregard for chronology, this time it's the birth of the Buddha. The story goes that Prince Siddhartha Gautama was born to Queen Maya in Lumbini, in Nepal, 2,500 years ago. He immediately took 7 steps in each of the cardinal directions, & indicating Heaven & Earth he announced "The world is filled with suffering. I shall relieve it all!" Nothing like having a goal, eh?
Apparently, his birth caused his mother no pain. Which must induce (sorry!) envy in any Mums out there.
Queen Maya died 7 days later. Oh well, you win some, you lose some!
