Singing in my Chains

Mackintosh Bowling Green

Hasn't it been a lovely day? The cats have been flopping around in a 'I-like-it-hot-but-this-is-too-hot' sort of way.

This was once the home of Arabella Richards, known as Roath Castle in her lifetime. Her father died before her birth when his horse collided with a cartload of manure (a perfect example of the old saw, 'comedy is tragedy over time'). She later married a big cheese from the Mackintosh clan and used his money to build housing on her land, hence the preponderance of Scottish street names. She later left the building to her tenants and today it is a bowling green & tennis club. Unfortunately, there was no-one playing lunchtime but the pitch was once graced (ahem) by the famous W.G.Grace. (see what I did there?) The Riverside food market pitches up in the car park once a week. The building looks quite smart in the sunlight but in reality, it's a little tatty. Which I like.
