a bit closer
THIS was my first attempt at capturing cricket.
Then I was using a Canon 70-200mm L with a Canon x2 teleconverter.
Today I was using a Canon 300mm L Prime lens with a cheapo x2 teleconverter.
Both times were using my FOVCF x1.6 EOS 450D (in other words the 400mm is actually 640mm and the 600mm is 960mm)
So what have I learned?
1) The cheapo x2 teleconverter is unsuitable for photographing moving subjects at this range - it just struggles too much (but then it was £89 compared to nearly £500 for the Canon model)
2)ANY x2 converter is undersireable for this type of photography. Its OK for this casual situation but if covering the event for press etc you need the correct lens range (70-400mm in my opinion) at f2.8
3)Frame rate is key for the plays. Shooting RAW in bursts I noted the ball was usually only in one shot of four or five taken.
So to sum up, I could do with a 7D and a f2.8 400mm prime lens. I dont suppose anybody has these things lying around gathering dust?
