The Plant I Chanced To Meet

Today I climbed onto the rooftops of two buildings adjoining the yard I've been renovating so that I could trim branches from a tall tree and let in more sunlight. While up there I took pictures and had a careful look-see, because I'm unlikely to see those familiar scenes from those particular angles ever again. I accomplished a good amount of work and enjoyed the unusual evening sights, but this opportunistic plant caught and pleased my eye. I have no idea what species it is. I'm glad that it has a smaller friend of a different sort to keep it company some thirty feet above a little-noticed alleyway. There were no others of its kind nearby.

It was good to meet this stranger by accident, where the plant is growing in its unlikely spot, and where I had this very rare occasion to be. If it were an animal, we could have looked into each other's eyes. If it were human, we might have wished each other a good holiday weekend or admired the great weather. I don't fancy that this veggie being ever knew I existed, but I noticed it, struggling toward moisture and light, clinging fiercely to a spot of turf so tiny that it strains my mind to think of how it can provide anything to a plant of even this modest size.

For the record, this is a good plant and it has my sincere recommendation.
