Unscathed
In today's searing heat, I noticed in the cool of the morning one bud on the yellow rose bush and then as the mid-day scorch arrived, it opened into a full bloom. It never looked bothered by today's high temps.
The three pooches, on the other hand, were quite bothered by the heat. We made the mistake of taking them for a walk to the park about 11:30. We arrived at our neighborhood park to discover that the restrooms were locked (that must have something to do with the budget crunch in our state), so there was no water available. Their tongues were hanging to the ground. We found a large shade tree and took a rest underneath it. There in the above ground roots of the tree Chloe discovered a little pool of water let from the morning sprinklers. she and the other two lapped it up quickly and we headed for home where they spent the next several hours laying flat on their tummies on the cool tile floor.
After enjoying morning coffee on the patio and the walk to the park, we have stayed inside, enjoyed the air-conditioning, and basically decided this was a lovely "do-nothing" day. That isn't to say there is nothing to do, we just didn't do it! ;-) I hope that is permissable on a summer Saturday.
At 9:00 p.m. it is 83 degrees F and all our windows are open and the evening breeze has a touch of cool on it.
Good night from Southern California.
