I usually just get to take birdies...but...today I got to go one under for an eagle. How exciting to get so close!

The wife and I, and sister and brother in law took a day trip "up north." We wondered aloud if other states have an "up north." On Friday nights...especially on a holiday weekend...Our I-75 expressway is just jammed with people headed north. Then...on Sunday night...or in this case Monday night...everything is jammed up coming south. Such fun...and then for most people...it's back to the rat-race. That goes on from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

We drive almost 80-85 miles for a turkey dinner. But...it's not just any old turkey dinner. It's the Turkey Roost. It's been there since the 1950's, and the decor hasn't changed. For $7.25...it's turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, homemade biscuits and honey, green beans, and a little dollop of cranberries. As Rachel Ray says.."Deeeelish." Some of the waitresses have been there for over 40 years. No waiters either. Only couteous and kind ladies.

The eagles have been coming back for 3 seasons. They make a huge nest on a golf course called Green Hills. It is mom and dad and 3 almost grown eaglets. This baby was the only one in the area. I guess the rest were off doing eagle things.

The way you get to see them is sweet. The golf course people let you fire-up one of their golf carts, and you "floor" the buggy down the 10th fairway...take a left just past the pond...and park at the 17th tee. Then you look up, and hope you can see something. The only bad part of parking near the tee box was hearing the guy yell the F-word as he shanked his drive. If you let golf bother you that much...why pay to torture yourself?

I hope that one of the eagles never gets hit. I can imagine the dialogue. "I was approaching the green for a birdie...BUT I GOT AN EAGLE INSTEAD!!!" Golf humor...I don't think I "aced" it.

I never realized it took the eagles 4-5 years to get the white head that makes them look like a bald eagle. Happy flying and hunting to them. I called this guy Bob...the Big BOP-per. B-O-P...Bird of Prey. This is the top of the food chain. It's good to be on top.
