Ghana Day 2

Today we were in Tema, Ghana.

This is Ghana's 4th largest city, and it's pretty much an industrial place. Theres a big Oil Refinery and it also has a huge port area, which dominate the city, so this provides a lot of jobs for the locals. Of course there is the usual poverty and degradation, but again people just get on with life. The one thing I've found about Ghana though is, there is noone pestering you, no beggars on the streets, you are pretty much left alone. There are a multitude of people on the streets but everyone is working or going to work. As you can see here, they will just set up a little stall, selling everything and anything to earn a crust. I assume there is no need for any street traders license to worry about here. We were not that far from Accra, Ghana's capital, but we never made the trip. Instead we jumped in a cab, and drove around the city for a couple of hours. Unfortunately there was not that much to see and do here, so I didn't take too many photos.

However the best part of the day was listening to this crazy DJ, who was screaming over the radio with Bob Marley in the background, about everything, from Drug dealers to Petrol prices, or Water access to Corrupt politicians. He was just brilliant, and the only time he stopped was to take a breath. I would love to have been able to tell him about blip, because his rants would have been something to behold.

Anyway, we will going to Togo tomorrow, and from what I've been told, it will be as third-world as it gets in Africa. Not even sure if I'll be taking my SLR out, and sure as hell will be leaving my watch in the cabin.
