The end of the line?

As I am typing this in the members of Edinburgh council are discussing the future of the tram 'network' in Edinburgh. It's been a long running debate as to whether Edinburgh actually needs trams and if they do where they should run from and to. It now looks like there are essentially three options. The first is to scrap the trams at a cost of £750m, the second is to connect the airport to Haymarket, which is just about in the city centre and no more costing slightly less than the £750m to scrap and the final one is to go through to St Andrew Square at a cost of £780m - it's kind of Hobsons choice.

My own preference is to spend a bit more and get it to St Andrew Square, once it's running and serving the heart of the city people will come round to the idea, just like they have done in Manchester and the council will then be able to consider pushing out the service to the North and South of the city.

The only ask of mine though, whatever the option that is chosen make sure that the bloody contract is drawn up properly so we aren't faced with more discussion on the topic!
