Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Great-Great Grammie Fun

Today Mr. Fun took our 4-year-old great-grandson Tristan to see Mr. Fun's mom who is also Tristan's G-G-Grammie. Tristan was enthralled as Grammie read to him from the new book he got last week at family camp . . . it's the Children's Storybook Bible.

Tristan lives in Oklahoma with his mommy, Desiree, our middle grandchild, and he hasn't been to see G-G-Grammie Fun since last summer when he was here for a visit.

Grammie is 88-years-young and lives here in our city in the home that she and Mr. Fun's dad built back in the late 1950s. Next month will be four years that she has been a widow.

Grammie was born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana, and met her husband, who had been raised in southern California, during WWII when he was stationed nearby. They married there and when Mr. Fun was 6-weeks-old they moved to southern California. Mr. Fun's Grandma was single and a business woman who owned an elegant women's dress shop in this community. So they left Indiana to be near her.

Since the move from Indiana, most of our family has stayed right here in this vicinity, so when Desiree moved out of state two years ago, it was a sad day for all of us. Desiree is hoping to get a transfer and moved back here before Tristan begins kindergarten a year from this September. She works for Fedex so it is a job that she doesn't plan to quit.

For tonight and the next couple, Tristan will be staying at Aunt Dede's home. That is giving us some needed relief from the constant attention that a 4-year-old needs and wants. Today I think I just stared into space for most of the day from sheer exhaustion (okay, that's an exaggeration, but not totally!).

Good night from Southern California.

P.S. I was quite glad to come across this blip and wanted to note it here. I thought it was very special. I believe current culture doesn't give much credit to the senior population, but they have earned their keep, their dues, and certainly need our appreciation and gratitude.

P.P.S. I haven't yet back-blipped last week's camp photos. When I gather-up some energy and some momentum, I will tackle that task.
