I've got an itch!

This afternoon I was looking for inspiration since no blip manifested itself yesterday (even though I did see a Humming-bird hawkmoth on the Valerian!) so I went and sat in the field with the Herefords and their calves waiting to see what would happen. I was outside the group since they looked peaceful and I didn't want to disturb them but sure enough a couple of calves slowly made their way up to me - it was like the game Grandmother's Footsteps. When they thought I wasn't looking they came a few steps nearer but finally stopped about 8 or 9 feet away when their courage failed them.

The calf on the left is nearly bent double to relieve an itch and the other one has lost its eartag. Hopefully we will be able to indentify it when it suckles its mother as we have her number in the book as the calf's Dam. Both calves must be about four months old so in a couple of months they will be separated from their mothers.

T managed to complete our neighbour's haylage yesterday with the help of a contractor who baled and wrapped for him. Today he and N have taken turns to mow grass in several fields for silage which will hopefully be picked up tomorrow and put in the silage pit.
