This clock was on a half derelict primary school building in Helensburgh. A carving on the wall revealed that the school was built in 1903 so the clock may well be the original one.

I thought of all the school pupils regulated by the clock over the years and those who got a belting because they were late that probably hated the sight of it..

I also thought of the line in John Donne's "The Sun rising":

"Saucy pedantic wretch, go chide
Late school-boys and sour prentices,"
