Something out of nothing.

Why is it you guys can post images of everyday, ordinary and mundane things like bowls of cereal, road signs and cups of coffee and manage to make them look great?
Whenever I photograph such things, the results are poor. To say the least. Tomorrow i'm gonna post a boring untouched pic just to prove my point.
I cant make any of my pics look good in black and white either.

Looking to exploit my editing software, todays Blip is merely a lamp being shone on a black notebook.
I love the way it came out, looking like a cross section of a geological discovery.
The effect may have added colour but the texture is the uneven contours of my radio playlist notebook.
