drought-resistant plants

It has been madly dry here and so the PRICKLY PEAR plant works nice - and yes it pricks, I want to grow it in my garden, but it would torture anything that came near with the tiny pricks.

everyday this plant visibly grows. They have large spines, actually modified leaves, growing from tubercles, small, wart-like projections on their stems.

I want to make Prickly Pear Margarita, that seems a long way off, so I'll order it at my next bar night.

I live on toasted lizards,
Prickly pears, and parrot gizzards,
And I'm really very fond of beetle-pie.
