Silage Time
A beautiful sunny day. Ollie and I had a walk round the fields and cut along Carol and Steve's path, which they keep neatly mown. The fields have all been cut for silage in the last 24 hours. The grass is lying wilting in the sunshine, to get rid of excess moisture. The smell is wonderful - I sat for ages, just inhaling new mown grass, drying in the sun.
The council have been out with their big machines, cutting down the verges, but this year they are just strimming around junctions to allow for better vision for safety reasons, and they are leaving the buttercups, angelica, flag irises, clovers, vetches and grasses on the long straight stretches. Well done them - never thought I'd hear myself say that!
