Meadow Brown

A very early morning walk with the spaniel today. I noticed that the musk mallow (malva moschata) have started flowering in the dry meadow and there were hundreds of meadow brown butterflies mainly (but not this one) feeding on marsh thistle. Photographed against the sunlight the meadow brown has a light coloured fringe around the wings which I haven't noticed before.
