Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Daisy gets a scare.

On our way to the Orkney Ferry last week we stopped at a layby near to the village of Brora and found a stone memorial to the last wolf killed in Sutherland. The memorial, erected by the Duke of Portland in 1924, reads:

TO MARK THE PLACE NEAR WHICH (ACCORDING TO SCROPE'S "ART OF DEERSTALKING") THE LAST WOLF IN SUTHERLAND WAS KILLED BY THE HUNTER POLSON IN OR ABOUT THE YEAR 1700.

Last night I was telling Daisy, our cow, about the wolf. As a result she tells me that she suffered terrible nightmares and spent a very disturbed night. Personally, I blame the cheese sandwiches that she ate for supper.

Zoomify for maximum fear factor.

Sorry - it's been another very wet day!
