Shelter
Even this young bird had had enough of the incessant rain today and took shelter for quite a long time in the bird feeder. It was a tight squeeze but once in it seemed quite comfy watching the rain pouring down outside.
A dangerous stragegy though as Mrs S provides food for the birds in all seasons. The local cats know this and patrol the area every now and then to 'see what's up' if you follow my drift. Behr (our dog) puts up with the birds (more tolerent of them - I think he finds them amusing), and cats (until they irk him when he then stamps his impressive physical authority on the scene and backs this up with some loud barking which inevitably sees all forms of animal - and sometimes human - life in the garden melt away into the distance). But it was raining heavily today and Behr was in his den so the bird was on its own. I think its a fledgling and not too sure of flight yet. Thankfully the weather also discouraged the cats and the bird eventually hopped out and sought a different perch.
Such is life on a wet summers day in the back garden. More rain is due tomorrow, and Thursday and then for the weekend. My next task is to dust down the plans for building an ark. At this rate we will need it before winter arrives. The sun has most definately gone - the skies aren't blue here and the days are grey.
