Don't look if you're any way squeamish...

....because I've surpassed myself in sheer noseiness today, when I had to take a photo of someone from the water company removing poo & other crud (condoms, baby wipes to say the least) from the drains on our street. I really don't know what possessed me because the photo does no justice to the sights & smells I experienced in my quest to know more about something that adds no personal value to my life. I was lucky I missed the rats....but at least there was a willingness to look at them should they have shown up!

Although it was interesting to talk to the gentleman doing the job, he has been doing it 23 years and gets paid an amazing hourly rate to do it, he was a bit apprehensive when I first approached, according to him it is amazing the number of people that get cross or abusive because of the job he does. He felt much more at ease when I shared my first job was cleaning loos at the local supermarket years ago, so dealing with turds & the likes was really not that shocking.

We discsused how lucky we are to have such drainage systems and that in poorer countries they do not have the luxery of such facilities and faeces and waste lies on streets alongside children and families.
