Landestheater Schwaben, Memmingen
For some time, have been wanting to spend an afternoon walking around the centre of Memmingen as there has been a lot of work done on smartening it up over the last 10 years. Today I had to pick up some things right on the edge of the centre but as the car was parked illegally and I didn't have time, could only take this shot of the rear of the Theater with its rather interesting roof. Parts of the building date back to around 1300s when it was a convent and since 1800 a theatre. It was one of the 1st theatres to start up again after WWII although Memmingen, despite its rural surroundings, was fairly heavily bombed with some 30% of the buildings being destroyed. The main reason being the nearby airfield "Memmingerberg" now called "Munich West" by Ryanair and Germany's highest located commercial airport.
