For James
Remaining an invalid today, I was lying in bed flicking through the Sunday papers when I came across a map in one of them showing a tourist route through Romania with Sighisoara on it. This town has been a standing joke between myself and my colleague James ever since it was mentioned in a Standard Grade English exam paper and we had to say it's name out loud when reading the exam paper for the benefit of pupils with dyslexia. Neither of us had any idea how to pronounce it and it turned out we both just made something up on the spot for our respective pupils - after all, they too wouldn't have any idea what the real pronunciation was, would they?!
We compared pronunciations afterwards and came up with our definitive: Sig-i-sore-a, which we now still mutter out occasionally (in an Eastern European accent) at random and unexpected moments. So I took this photo intending to send it to James but seeing as I took no other photos that day, I'm going to have to put it on here too.
To this day we have no idea yet how it should be pronounced by the way.
