Milton Abbey

The Abbey building itself is now a private school, with the Abbey church next to it. It's a short walk from the village of Milton Abbas, which was constructed in the 18th century to enable all the ramshackle dwellings that spoilt the view from the mansion house to be pulled down.

We had the beuatiful old Abbey church to ourselves for 10 minutes while we wandered round. It looks as though there was to have been a nave as well as the choir seen in the picture. If they'd built that, it would have been huge.
