What is it?

Perhaps I should give you a clue.

It's something I found this morning on my walk when I was out picking elderflowers so that I could make elderflower cordial. The cordial is good for colds and flu' so I am making plenty this year.

I also saw bees buzzing around dog roses and in one area there are orchids in the grass. What a lovely surprise!

There has been a lot of storm damage and there are great lumps of tree down on the side of the path. One of the beeches that has snapped had these growing inside a hollow.

It's bracket fungus.
