Caution: hazard ahead

Eventually got to walk 5 km round Arthurs Seat today; the start time had been put back till 1 pm, to allow the 10k crowd to go earlier and we had to wait for 45 min extra as there was some sort of medical emergency on the route. Didn't mind the wait so much as the tedious bellowing from people with nothing to say on rival PA systems at two opposite ends of the gathering area.

The "Race" for life raises money for Cancer Research UK. Good things this year (apart from the splendid array of womenfolk) were that the route was clockwise again, like a couple of years ago - the climb is more gradual that way round - and that there were only little refreshing specks of rain with some blue sky definitely visible. Some of the signs on peoples backs, dedicating their walk to someone close who'd had cancer, were very affecting. I had thought about filling one out myself, but quickly realised that there definitely wasn't room on the paper for all the names I could have written down. I don't know how much was raised for research this year - think the target was something like half a million quid.

I'm not sure what the illuminated sign was for; there was no particular hazard from a walkers point of view. Maybe just up to warn any unwitting male visitors to the park of the monstrous (pink) regiment.....   ;-)
