Lazy Sunday
Here's a lazy Sunday shot, lots of stuff going on, but no inspiration for a photo ;-)
After a leisurely breakfast, Dad and I finally got around to inspecting our house. Probably a little more movement that I anticipated and the remedial work, mostly painting and replastering some areas is going to take some time.
Of particular interest was the slumping one corner of the house, some of which is pre-existing. Appears it's now slumped around 50-60mm, so the house is definitely going downhill in one corner. But, in relation to many parts of CHC, that is very minor. Regardless of what EQC assess it as, I'm going to start propping it with some "folding" wedges, or fox wedges, basically (over time) wedging it back into position. The wedges need to be about 1:8, so reasonably shallow, then you oppose them against each other, and every month or two give them a whack, gradually raising the building off the footing. I guess you then permanently prop one it?s level.
Then out to the airport, dropping Dad off. It's been great to have him down, and while we might have enjoyed the occasional wine too many, it was brilliant to spend time with him, look around the city, and talk about everything earthquakes.
And then the weather closed in, and my enthusiasm to do much else. So lots of little jobs, and an early night!
