BEETLE? to be amended ......

Cannot find in my Insect Book, can anyone identify this please.

This flew on to the ferns I was trying to look really interesting in photographing. I was actually perfectly happy wandering in the undergrowth with my camera, but I had earlier dropped G off the other side of a White-tailed Eagle haunt and was a little concerned that my forage in the undergrowth was being recorded on CCTV. Also the fact that I was desperate for a pee was not helping. I needed to know exactly where those video cameras were. In the end I crossed my legs and after several other stops for Whinchat and White-tailed Eagle we arrived back, with relief, at the cottage.

We went first thing this morning for the Roller but no luck, though there were a few other people looking out for it. Very difficult terrain though. It could easily be there but out of view with so many places to hide. Well, that's my excuse.

But later I got to meet (islands are excellent for this!) Frisa the Border Terrier again. What a gorgeous wee dog.
