Burning Bush

This is a Red Bird of Paradise [Caesalpimia pulcherrima] bush. It grows in a variety of soils and that's why it is suited to the desert southwest.

It's a tropical looking shrub that produces spectacular orange flowers from March through October.

Makes me wonder why it's not called an Orange Bird of Paradise instead of a Red one?
