Copper Beech Steaks

I'm learning now to trust that however little opportunity the day offers to get out with the camera, something interesting will always pop up. This was taken just a couple of minutes from home in the grounds of the Craiglands Hotel. I was walking up towards the moor when I noticed that some trees had been recently cut down. A month or so back I would not have though anything of it, but this evening (with my blipper's hat on) I felt compelled to investigate, climbing over a fence to have a nosy around.

I had just taken this shot when someone called over from the hotel. My first reaction (from the little boy in me!) was that I was in trouble for trespassing, but the grounds-keeper came over and engaged with me in a discussion about the trees. The wood looked healthy enough to me, but this tree was apparently diseased and had to come down. You can work out for yourself what I was immediately reminded of when I saw this. My blip for today was secured.
