Munted Part II
I didn't have time to get my camera yesterday as we exited the building (twice) as first one aftershock ripped through, then another. So this Blip is the next day. The first one at about 1.20pm wasn't so bad at only about 5.7 - it didn't have the vicious punch that the one on Feb 22nd had. The one that killed 186 people. But big enough that we had to hang on.
The second one after 2pm was bigger. That one ripped down the ceiling panels, cut the power, ruptured the water mains and birthed volcanoes of silt through peoples homes and onto the streets. That one was a 6, later upgraded to a 6.3. So what.
At home our kitchen in the new rental was a shattered mess and the new telly, not yet two weeks old was broken on the floor. The next-door neighbour gathered me in and we went up to another place on the hill that had a gas BBQ, beer and wine. A group of us stood on the deck and watched the sunset reflected in the river of mud that used to be Ferry Road.
Jesus Christ. Not again.
So this is the drive up behind our place that leads to other properties but now covered in a clay slide. I went back home tonight and measured up. The house has been stretched and pulled and wrenched further off its foundations. A few tiles are off the roof. Whatever else it means, it means we are back to square one with fixing the rockslide problem behind us. Or maybe not. A hell of a lot more came down yesterday so maybe that was a really cheap way of cleaning up. Although meant as a joke, I dont' find it remotely funny.
