Culinary adventures continue...
A friend and i enjoy exploring different areas of NY which are known for their ethnic cuisine. On previous trip have been to Chinatown, Astoria for Greek food, Jackson Heights for Columbian and Indian food, Arthur Avenue for Italian and Bay Ridge for Middle Eastern food.
Today we ventured out of state to Newark in NJ, which is known for it's Portuguese food. We went to a couple of excellent food stores, including one of the only smokeries in the state. Lopes Sausage and Co will even let you go behind the scenes and see the smoking process first hand if you call ahead so they can get the requisite health & safety procedures in place.
We ate lunch of sardines (pictured) and robalo fish in a tiny restaurant called Katekero. Then headed onto Seabra supermarket where I bought shark and some more robalo to try at home.
