Astronomy Lesson

The plaque says: "An international scientific endeavour to determine the size of the solar system took place in the 18th century. As part of this campaign, John Winthrop from Harvard College, Mass, sailed to St John's Newfoundland, to observe the transit of Venus of 1761 June 6, the only such observation made from the Western Hemisphere. The actual site is thought to be Kenmount Hill, 7km soutwest of here. (Erected by The Royal Anstronomical Society of Canada, July 2004)"

This pedestal mounted plaque with metal sculpture atop is on the university campus, in the middle of a little square surrounded by the Math, Science and Admin Buildings.

Today was a beautiful sunny day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Apologies for my limited comments lately. Still don't have my computer back and been busy with other stuff.
