Not by any means a wash-out

A busy, and somewhat frustrating day in terms of work. There'd been a problem with the PDf proofs I'd sent to the annual report client last night and I spent a while trying to resolve things. Not getting anywhere, I had to resort to screenshots to get material to him to check yesterday's corrections and move on to sign-off. (Later on I discovered what the problem was: I'd added a thin white stroke to the body text to lighten it a bit, and that was proving too much for the PDF generation engine. It took a while to get to that point, and a lot of time was wasted as a result. Still, by 1.30 am I had everything cleared and was ready with finished artwork to hand to the printer tomorrow morning.

I'd reached the point of a natural break in the work flow just as it came time for the live broadcast of the Canadian Grand Prix. I settled down to watch expecting the race to be over as usual in under two hours. The Canadian weather had other ideas. The race began under a safety car, which rather spoiled the potential thrills at the first corner, and we'd only had twenty minutes or so of racing before heavy rain began to pour down, the safety car was called into action again, and eventually the race was red flagged. The interruption lasted for well over an hour before racing resumed, and TV coverage, which began at 5.00 pm, didn't finally finish until 10.30.

After the boring disappointment of waiting for something to happen, it actually turned into a really exciting race. Silly plonker Lewis Hamilton had been up to his now-usual tricks before the interruption and was forced to retire after his third instance of contact with other cars. After the resumption, his team mate Jenson Button really pulled out all the stops and eventually, in a nail-biting finish, overtook Sebastian Vettel on the final lap to take a well-earned win. Great stuff!
