For a few years now, the Sugar House Casino has been a major news item in Philadelphia. There has been such firm and vigorous opposition to its exitence from local residents that it might have never opened. I finally rode around it today, and I was expecting some sort of neatly groomed presentation on the bank of the Delaware. But the casino's world seems to end about 25 feet from the water's edge, as they did not even bother to remove these rotting remnants of piers that were last used in the 1960s. Silly me for thinking that they should have cleaned up the waterfront so that their clients could go out for some air or to smoke a cigarette without having to stare at weeds and greasy old crap. The nearest other casino, about 20 miles downstream, has a rather impressive little racetrack for trotters on the riverbank. Too bad that the one nearest me decided to err on the side of ugly.

This was a difficult day for choosing a blip, because my bike took me through some neighborhoods that have changed dramatically since my last visits. I will try to return to those places again with camera ready as always.
