Wemyss Bay Station

A trip to the Isle of Bute to visit Mount Stuart with the Mansfield Traquair Trust started with a coach trip from Edinburgh along the coast from Glasgow round to Wemyss Bay to board the ferry.

The station is an amazing Victorian structure - Category A listed and a treat to visit.

Mount Stuart, a Victorian Gothic mansion south of Rothesay, was fantastic too with a guided tour from James who was very enthousiastic and knowledgeable - chapel, stained glass with prisms as the stars in the constellations making rainbows in the room when the sun shines, Arts and Crafts furniture, huge tapestries made by the Edinburgh Tapestry Company, heated swimming pool...and a great place for a day out, with children's playground, garden walks, places to eat, plants for sale.
