The Waterfall
The hiking trip was awesome!
I took my 15 yr old son and two of his friends to Starved Rock. We hiked and climbed for seven hours before we finally had enough. It was extremely hot and humid, and the trails were muddy. What is it with boys and goat noises? They just kept making them during the whole trip. hahaha!
Funny story: At one canyon the boys had walked off the trail to look around while I set up my tripod to shoot. All of a sudden I heard "Mom! Mom! We found a dead body!" It's just one of those things that make you stop and think before you respond. I wondered if I heard that correctly. "You found what?"
They came running back and were clearly freaked out. So I'm half listening to the three of them speaking at the same time, and half wondering what to do. There's no cell phone service out there.
I asked a few questions:
How do you know its a dead body? Its in a bag and the leg bone is sticking out. (Ewww)
Does it smell? Yeah (ok, no one is vomiting so its been there for a while)
How big is the bag? Its big (I'm trying to assess if its big enough for an actual human body)
Did you see a skull? No, its in the bag (Ah bummer...we cant leave it without knowing for sure)
So I tell them to go back and carefully open the bag.
They walked back to the bag and started poking it with some sticks trying to get it open. Yeah, I know...messing with the evidence...
Finally they pulled the plastic open far enough to see that it was NOT a human body, but in fact a dog. Of course they took cell phone pictures to show me.
Yes, very sad that someone bagged their dog and tossed it. But, it was like a scene from a comedy watching those boys. We had a good laugh all the way home.
